Miniature Art in Oils
Welcome to my new adventure!
After much prompting, cajoling and pushing....I have decided to heed the advice of many of my contemporaries in this field of miniature art and create a place to show my art. I hope someone will find this interesting! I also make a solemn promise to keep this site, almost like a web, concentrating on just showing my art and commenting only on developments in the miniature art field or my art.
ARTIST STATEMENT
I feel that there are four things that have had a significant impact on what and how I paint. First, as the son of a naval officer, which combined with my 30 years of service, enabled me to literally have seen the entire world, hence, no matter what scene I attempt, it is often something that I can relate to from personal experiences. Second, years of self-study has led to experimenting with numerous techniques, styles and subjects which translates to the variety of my work and a style not patterned after any particular artist. Third, years of doing small work studies prior to a large painting have aided me in the transition to my love of miniatures and full time painting in miniature. Finally, the ability to electronically link to other miniaturists who have been willing to share critiques, ideas and advice have enabled me to progress toward my goal of being considered a miniaturist

- A 1962 graduate of the US Naval Academy, I retired after 30 years as a Navy Captain having had the opportunity to command both ashore and at sea. Technically trained, with a MS in Physical Oceanography and a secondary teaching certification in Mathematics/Science. The newspaper post descibes well my journey into miniature art which began with the goal to provide quality original artwork at reasonable prices, hence filling what I saw as a "large, black hole" at every art show I attended. Married for 43 years, with three living children and five grandchildren, my other "passions" are golf, gardening and cooking. My personal goal, especially upon my first entries into last years US Miniature Society shows(MSPGS and MASF), is to gain acceptance as a regular and valued miniaturist entrant. In 2007, all three of my entries were accepted into the MSPGS show....where on opening night for collectors, one sold. I also had four of my five entries accepted into the MASF show. Needless to say, these are "honors" as I must finally be close to "getting it right" to get through these tough panels of jurists!

Pete- Congrats on the well deserved honor! You've come a long way- Considering how short of a time ago it was that you were trying to figure out how to get your work juried in to the show!
I'm happy to say that I was 'alongside' for the whole thing- Arguments and all. Yeah, you stirred the pot, but in the end for the better.
